Titanic Live 05

17 July 2005

The extreme depth submersibles MIR1 and MIR2 have today completed a ten dive series to the wreck of the RMS Titanic as part of the Deep Ocean Expeditions 2005 dive schedule. Excellent weather saw 5 dive days completed over the wreck which lies 365 miles south of St Johns, Newfoundland at a depth of 12,465 feet (3790 meters). Expedition Leader Rob McCallum said "It was a most rewarding voyage. We had expeditioners from 12 nations who were all interested in diving the wreck for quite different personal reasons - for some it's the opportunity to visit the extreme depths, but for most its something specific about Titanic itself. For everyone though, there is the common link of respect for those that have been before us on the fateful night 93 years ago".

The good weather and flawless technical performance of the Russian submersibles team allowed Deep Ocean Expeditions to complete the dive series ahead of schedule with the ship Akademik Keldysh arriving in St Johns on the 17 th July.
