The Real North Pole Expedition postponed
16 April 2006
Last week discussions on the logistics of 'The Real North Pole Expedition' culminated in Deep Ocean Expeditions' senior management making a decision to postpone the inaugural expedition.
Deep Ocean Expeditions (DOE) had two of the three required vessels under charter for the complex Arctic submersible expedition, but faced logistical difficulties and repeated third-party setbacks in chartering the final required vessel, the Russian state-owned nuclear icebreaker Yamal. The expedition had now been rescheduled for the Arctic summer of 2008.
Whilst the decision was disappointing Deep Ocean Expeditions wish to emphasize the postponement is being viewed as such and certainly is not a cancellation. DOE are highly motivated to make the project happen in 2008 especially given that 2007/08 is International Polar Year.
