9th May 2005 The extensive rebuild of the MV DeepOcean Quest is progressing well in Gulfport, Mississippi, USA. The refit has been expanded to cover additional modifications which consequently has extended the original timeline. Included in this extended work programme is the construction of a large helicopter pad and the installation of a multi-beam sonar system. Other additional features will include a moonpool, a two-man decompression chamber, full nitrox facilities, staterooms and both wet and dry scientific laboratories. After seatrials it is expected the vessel will begin diving with the on-board Deep Rover submersibles in the Gulf of Mexico in late August. After this time she will transit through the Panama Canal and begin work in the Pacific Ocean. |
